The background
Regency Shipping Ltd (RSL) is a freight forwarder specialising in the movement of precious and valuable commodities worldwide. It is part of the Ferrari Group network offering a wide range of services including bonded warehousing, armoured vehicles, security packing and general logistics services.
The challenge
There have been two major challenges over the last ten years.
A decade ago, Regency’s business was growing and it needed to streamline its processes. Data input was being duplicated which was a time-consuming process – and increased the potential for errors. The accounting system was completely separate to the transport operations. There was no central access to information within the company.
Today, Regency is seeking to offer its customers the full range of logistics services they need – not just services for goods of high value. In order to do this cost-effectively, and to be competitive with the larger forwarders and integrators, it needed to find less labour-intensive and more efficient ways of handling goods and the ever increasing demands from customers.
The solution
Ten years ago, Regency started working with BoxTop and the effect was immediate. “Moving to BoxTop with its Windows-based environment was a step change in usability, speed and efficiency,” says Stephen Grief, Financial Director, Regency Shipping Ltd. By linking the accounting system to the freight data, the flow of information matched the flow of goods.
“By cross platform integration at the basic database level, it makes the whole process of invoicing and credit control more robust, more reliable, quicker and able to be done more frequently.”
And BoxTop has continued to deliver greater efficiency and new features ever since that first step.
Today, BoxTop facilitates Regency’s ability to offer on-line booking and consignment tracking. “This has allowed us to expand the services we offer to customers without increasing our cost base. The improvement in communications has allowed us to use our time more productively.”
The result
Regency Shipping is able to combine the highly personal approach with the latest communications tools and so offer the full range of logistics services to its target market.
Stephen Grief says the antiques and auctioneers market is relatively conservative and the drive for greater automation and computer-based access has not necessarily come from responding to customer demands. “However, when you show a client how it works and how they can use it to work more efficiently, they quickly appreciate the benefits – especially as the system BoxTop designed is so easy to use.”
He is sure that BoxTop helps him win new customers and to increase productivity with existing customers.
